It is propably planning that strikes the most fear into any couple when they first think seriously about organising their big day. The second fear is budgeting. No need to be scared as we will hold your hand through those unloved tasks and take you to the fun bits like flowers and food!
So budgeting: basically you need to sit down and work out how much you can afford. Write down all your monthly outgoings and incomings, individually and as a couple. For example, council tax, utility bills, loads, food, petrol, spending money (these are all outgoings) and the your incomings are your wages after tax. Take your outgoings from your income and you have your first stab at how much you can afford to put aside. Now you can factor in any monetory gifts, for example if your parents have offered to help. See our full guide to budgets here.
The rest of planning is about identifying tasks and getting them done. Have a look at our timeline for an overview of how this should look.
As for the fun bit: look at our guides on how to organise the remainder of the elements e.g. flowers.
Remember, planning need not be a chore but if you leave things to the last minute you may end up with a lot of stress and a wedding that is far from what you really wanted!
