Here is a short guide as to which style of bouquet goes with which style of dress. Remember that the size of the bouquet depends of the size of the bride. If you are slightly larger you should have a suitably sized bouquet as too small a bouquet will draw attention to your size.
Our guide is not hard and fast, but gives a good idea:
- A shower bouquet looks best with somewhat taller and fuller figures and with larger, fuller skirted dresses and dresses with trains
- An over-arm bouquet complements slim figures, slinky dresses and dresses with lots of detail
- A hand-tied bouquet suits those of a medium height and build as well as bias cut dresses. They give a modern, understated look
A teardrop bouquet is great for a fuller figure and more traditional dress shapes and for those A-line skirts that start to flare from the waist
- A pomander style brings out the best of a petite figure. Short, calf length dresses, e.g. 1950 styles, and halter neck dresses
- Trailing bouquets draw the eye down the dress, so are best for tall figurers but are also good with ballerina style skirts and long, flowing trains
- Don't be afraid to go for vibrant colours
- Likewise, don't be afraid of creating impact using only one variety of flower
A seasonal effect can be immediate with your choice of colours - right yellows and whites for summer or more muted golds and russets for autumn
- And don't forget the Bridesmaids: usually smaller bouquets with a smaller arrangement of the same flowers that are in the Bride's bouquet or alternatively, an accent colour which enhances their outfits
