The Father of the Bride is usually very nervous and emotional on the day and it is often this speech that is the most moving. Here are some pointers for the Father of the Bride:
-
Recount past moments of the Bride from an early age
-
Mention the joy she has given you and her mother
-
Mention any mildly amusing anecdotes on her life from childhood, through the school years, marking any notable achievements that made you and her mother happy and proud
-
Begin to wind up with when you met the Groom for the first time and welcoming him to the family.
-
For some men it is difficult to put into words their emotions but with some coaching it is possible. What is important here is not to list every minute detail of the Bride's life, just key events.
-
Some mention is usually made of their new relationship with the Groom's parents and how welcoming they have been.
-
Towards the end of the speech, it is usual to give some end remarks about what marriage is about - give and take (perhaps that it is even made up of hundreds of tiny threads!) and that they have confidence that this marriage has all the ingredients to be a happy one.
-
The speech ends with a toast: "To the happiness and prosperity of the Bride and Groom!"
